Call for Papers: Workshop on Human Trafficking, International Crime and National Security
Papers are being accepted for the "Workshop on Human Trafficking, International Crime and National Security: A Human Rights Perspective" to be held February 3-4, 2012 in Goettingen, Germany. Its goal is to provide a forum for the interdisciplinary exchange of ideas among lawyers, economists, political scientists, sociologists, and other scholars. Empirical, theoretical, and policy-oriented papers are welcome. Travel expenses will be reimbursed and accommodation will be provided for presenters of accepted papers. The Workshop is sponsored by a Crime Action Grant from the European Commission, Directorate-General Justice, Freedom and Security. It is organized by Dr. Seo-Young Cho, who developed an index to measure the level of anti-trafficking policies in 177 countries during 2000-2009. Keynote will be by Beth Simmons of Harvard University. The deadline for submissions is November 30, 2011.

Call for Papers: 11th Annual DoD Cyber Crime Conference
The 11th Annual DoD Cyber Crime Conference is accepting abstracts for presentations, workshops, and panel discussions during the conference, which will be held January 24-27, 2012 in Atlanta, Georgia. Possible topics include cyber crime investigations, digital forensics, cyber crime law, sentencing issues, and e-discovery. The organizers are particularly interested in increasing the number of panel discussions. Lawyers may propose conference programs that could meet CLE requirements. The deadline for abstracts is August 1, 2011.

Today is International Criminal Justice Day. The Assembly of the States Parties of the International Criminal Court (ICC) adopted this date during the Review Conference of the Rome Statute held in Kampala, Uganda in June 2010. It marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Rome Statute, the treaty that founded the ICC. The treaty also defines the types of international crimes that individuals can be charged with committing: genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and the recently defined crime of aggression. The day aims to promote awareness and to generate support for global justice and the fight against impunity.

The International Association of IT Lawyers (IAITL) invites papers for oral presentations at the 6th International Conference on Legal, Security and Privacy Issues in IT Law (LSPI). The conference will be held September 19-22, 2011 in Cyprus. Possible topics include digital signatures, electronic discovery, internet freedom, jurisdiction in cyberspace, online gaming, cross-border litigation and alternative dispute resolution, cybercrime, and cloudcomputing. Call for Proposals: 3rd NUS-AsianSIL Young Scholars Workshop 2012
The National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Asian Society of International Law (AsianSIL) are pleased to invite presentation proposals for the 3rd NUS-AsianSIL Young Scholars Workshop 2012. The Workshop will be held at NUS in Singapore from February 23-24, 2012. Papers should focus on Asian approaches to international law. Suggested subject areas include: history and theory, the law of armed conflict, human rights, international criminal law, international organizations, dispute settlement, conflict of laws, and international environmental law. Participation will be contingent on producing a draft paper by December. Presenters will have their reasonable expenses covered. The deadline for proposals is September 16, 2011.

Death Row and International Law
The Obama administration, UN officials, and foreign leaders are asking Texas Governor Rick Perry and/or the U.S. Supreme Court to stay today's execution of a Mexican citizen on death row in Texas for a crime he committed in 1994. At issue is not his guilt or innocence, the legality of the death penalty, or whether he was given adequate due process guaranteed under the Texas Criminal Code or the U.S. Constitution. Rather, at issue is a treaty violation. When Texas authorities arrested Humberto Leal Garcia Jr., a Mexican national, they failed to inform him of his right to consular notification, thereby violating Article 36 of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 1963, which the United States accepts as legally binding under international law.

Call for Papers: Health and Human Rights in Disasters
Health and Human Rights, an international journal available in print and online, is accepting submissions for a special issue on health and human rights in disasters.
